Ceiling Fan Installation in Perth
New installs, replacements and fan-and-light combos, wired and tested by a licensed electrician.
Ceiling fans are a low-cost way to keep a room comfortable, and they use a fraction of the power of air conditioning. They’re useful in winter too, since running one in reverse pushes warm air back down from the ceiling. We install new fans, replace old ones and fit fan-and-light combos across Perth.

What we install
New ceiling fans where there’s no existing point, like-for-like replacements, and fan-and-light combos that run both from the one fitting.
DC fans are a common choice now. They’re quieter than AC fans, use less power and usually offer more speed settings, though they cost a bit more up front. For patios and alfresco areas we fit outdoor-rated fans, which are built for moisture and coastal air where an indoor fan won’t last.
Replacing a fan, or installing a new one
Replacing an existing fan is the quicker job, because the wiring and mounting point are already there. We check the existing mount can carry the new fan, connect it, balance the blades and test it before we leave.
Installing a fan where there’s only a light point takes longer. We run the additional wiring and fit either a wall control or a remote receiver so the fan and light can be operated separately, and we check the ceiling structure can take the weight and movement of a fan rather than just a light fitting.
Why this is licensed work
In WA, connecting a ceiling fan is electrical work and has to be done by a licensed electrician. A fan is heavier than a light fitting and it moves, so it needs to be fixed to something that can carry that load, wired to the wiring rules, and balanced so it runs without vibration. Whoever does it should give you an electrical safety certificate within 28 days, and Building and Energy’s guide to having electrical work done sets out what else you’re entitled to expect.
We work on ceiling and exhaust fans regularly. For pricing, our ceiling fan installation cost guide has the detail.
Before you book
It helps to know the room and roughly its size, whether there’s an existing fan or only a light point, and the ceiling height and type. If you’ve already bought a fan, send us the make and model. A photo of the existing fitting and the ceiling around it usually answers the rest, and means we turn up with the right mounting hardware.
Ceiling fan installation FAQs
How much does ceiling fan installation cost?
A like-for-like replacement usually runs $150 to $300 and takes about an hour and a half on site. Swapping a light point for a new fan costs more, typically $250 to $400 including a remote control, and takes an hour and a half to two and a half hours since it means running new wiring; it can climb a bit further if timber needs adding to support the fan. Our ceiling fan installation cost guide has the detail, and we’ll quote your job before we start.
Can I install a ceiling fan myself?
No. In WA this is licensed electrical work. A fan needs to be mounted to something that can carry its weight and movement, wired correctly and balanced so it runs without vibration.
Can you replace a light with a ceiling fan?
Yes, that’s a common job. We add the wiring and a wall control or remote so the fan and light run separately, and check the mounting point can handle a fan rather than just a light.
Are DC fans better than AC?
DC fans are generally quieter, use less power and offer more speed settings. AC fans cost less up front. Which suits you depends on the room and the budget.
My fan wobbles or hums, can you fix it?
Usually. A wobble is often a mounting or balance issue, and a hum can come from the fan type or its speed controller. We’ll find the cause and sort it.
